Organization
Legal structure and organization of BASF Group
Our 12 operating divisions are aggregated into six segments based on their business models. The divisions bear operational responsibility and are organized according to sectors or products. They manage our 58 global and regional business units and develop strategies for the 78 strategic business units.
Our regional and country units represent BASF locally and support the growth of the operation divisions with proximity to customers. For financial reporting purposes, we organize the regional divisions into four regions: Europe; North America; Asia Pacific; South America, Africa, Middle East.
Eight global units form a lean corporate center. The corporate center is accountable for group-wide governance and supports BASF’s Board of Executive Directors in steering the company as a whole. Four global cross-functional service units offer services for individual sites or globally for business units of the BASF Group.
Our three global research divisions are run from our key regions – Europe, Asia Pacific and North America: Process Research & Chemical Engineering (Ludwigshafen, Germany), Advanced Materials & Systems Research (Shanghai, China) and Bioscience Research (Research Triangle Park, North Carolina). Together with the development units in our operating divisions, they form the core of our global Know-How Verbund.
